Overview
Mission is to revolutionize classroom efficiency through an AI-powered worksheet generator.
WorksheetsAI is an edtech startup built by students, for educators. Designed to save teachers hours of prep time, the platform offers customizable templates and seamless integration with videos, PDFs, or slide decks. Imagining a world where learning is catered according to your learning, whether that is visual, hands-on, or collaborative.
Currently, the reality of teaching is that many educators spend a lot of time outside of their classrooms trying to craft agendas, lesson plans, and assignments that are effective and relevant. Much of this work is monotonous and tedious, making this an extremely time-consuming process.
Solution
Document-style worksheet generator with intuitive commands and a design system.
Inspired by Notion, Google Docs, and other competitors, I designed a solution that simplified the user experience: an all-in-one interface where users could browse, select, and edit templates seamlessly without switching screens.

Free-Form Document
Slash command for quick customizability.
Design System
I built a design system to support our rapid product development.
When I came onto this project, the existing system needed a rebrand. I started by working with the team to identify brand keywords, which were used to set a moodboard to guide the visual direction. In this brainstorming process. With the brand vision and considerations, I went on to develop a simple design system to streamline the development of the core product features and allow for consistency across the platform.

Initial Findings
The lack of intuitiveness throughout the product made the experience confusing and frustrating.
I utilized a feedback dashboard that contained over 250 responses from their previous model, which hadn’t change much. Through this I was able to identify key pain points throughout the event journey, setting a clear direction for our new product and the problems to focus on solving.

User Interviews
Lack of inclusivity across the worksheet generator journey

Limitation
No Image Option
Due to its limited capabilities, despite both users being humanities teachers, it is a testament to the lack of inclusivity, accessibility, and intuitiveness it lacks within the experience.
Pain Points
Poor Usability
The editing experience is fragmented and inefficient, it required users to manually click into each input field to make changes.
Insufficient Personalization
Users couldn’t mix question types like true or false, multiple choice, or insert math functions. They also lacked options to customize fonts, sizes, colors, or add images.
Ambiguous Language
The platform is frustratingly difficult to navigate, with ambiguous language that obscures rather than clarifies such as choosing between “Hard” and “Easy” difficulty levels.
Market Analysis
Competitor platforms did not have an all-in-one flow and media support experience.
I wanted to differentiate Worksheets.AI from existing platforms while preserving the features that were already working well. To do this, my team and I conducted a deep dive into three main competitors and I consolidated the insights.

Interface Exploration
Battling innovation with a chatbot vs a free-form document.
Through our research, both primary and secondary, one of my consultants and I explored different layouts and interfaces. To better understand which route to take, I went ahead and tested with past interviewees and the founders.

Testing
We went live with educators through online interviews.
I conducted user interviews, gathering valuable feedback to inform our next steps in Worksheets.AI development process. We were able to test the platform with real users and get feedback on the platform. Though we were not able to make changes, we documented feedback feedback and recommended insights to improve the platform and gave that to founders.
Iterating With Insights
Key Finding: I simplified the experience and reduced cognitive load by reducing what was on the screen.
I revisited past interviewees and consulted the founders to identify friction points in the workflow. This research guided iterations that simplified the interface, keeping template selection and editing in a single, clean, and familiar screen.
Final Solution
The free-form document route was the right choice. For its feasibility, scalability, and familiarity!

Free-Form Document
Quick customizability by resembling a regular Google or Word document. Making this an intutive experience for both tech and non-tech users.

All-in-one flow
Go back easily by having the template selection with a consolidated side bar.
Reflection
What I learned
Importance of Design Systems
Its necessary to share the same components, font sizes, and color branding across the team. In order to optimize workflow and for efficiency.
Communicating with different stakeholders
It’s important to tailor communication to different audiences. With the founders, I focused on detailed design rationales and business impact. With my consultants, I practiced giving clear, constructive feedback paired with positive reinforcement.
